Karditsa

This project concerns a 5-star hotel in Karditsa, Greece. The construction of the green σπαψεσ, with a total area of 30,000 m2, begun in early November 2009 and completed in end of June 2010 after almost 8 months.

This is a professional large green area with special requirements. We placed turf of a variety with very good characteristics in density, texture, color and resistance to stress, since this space concerns continuous social activities throughout the whole year.

We planted hedgerows of Eleagno (Eleagnus ebbingeii) around the plot and prune trees (Prunus laurocerasus), while in the rest of the green space we created large clusters of small and large shrubs, herbs and perennial herbs. As far as the architectural design of flora is concerned, we used 30 different species of trees and 100 different species of shrubs, while 400 trees and 10,000 shrubs and herbs were planted in total. The area of lawn is about 9,000 m2 and the area occupied by pebbles and wood was about 1,000 m2. In selected sections of green space we created sloped surfaces and terraces with lawn and shrubs in order to give a more natural dimension to the place, creating a beautiful landscape of high architectural quality.

Across the garden was a fully automated irrigation system was installed using solenoid valves and central controller. Pop-ups were also used for the irrigation of lawn and self-regulating dripping hoses for watering the trees and shrubs.
